How We Work

We see some major catalysts for change working in and through the lives of Journeyers. These catalysts are the building blocks for transformation: Community, Cross-cultural ministry, Mentorship, and Education. The First catalyst is the key. God chooses to use people to accomplish His work in the world. That means that relationship is the conduit through which ministry happens. Journeyers live in community with each other, and with Christians from around the world, and it changes everything.

What is Journey Corps?

Summary

placeholderJourney Corps is a 1 or 2 year immersion in cross-cultural life and ministry. Participants (Journeyers) are invited to build deep relationships with people from another culture. As a result, the Journeyer and the people they live & work with are forever changed. It’s a season of learning how to be an intentional Christian wherever you are, as Journeyers are transformed by ministry, for ministry. Journey Corps is hands-on experience with culture & community, facilitated by experienced leadership, national believers, and personal mentors.

Become a Lover of Jesus

Journeyer

The gospel of Jesus Christ is at the center of Journey Corps. The only thing of value that Journey Corps has to offer is Jesus. As each Journeyer cultivates a relationship with his or her Lord, they find their meaning, identity, strength, and hope in Him. They can then give that to others as they serve. What Jesus did on the cross is what changes people, whether that be believers growing in maturity or non-believers coming to know Him for the first time.

Become a Life-Long Learner

Being a lifelong learner is important for any field of work. For Journey Corps, it will be a primary focus. Being learners requires a mentality of humility. One of the most powerful ways to serve in another culture is to be humble before the nationals and learn from them. We want each Journeyer to learn the culture by submitting to the local body of Christ. Lifelong learners, specifically cross-cultural learners, are constantly expanding their view of who God is. Being open to those paradigm shifts is part of the journey.

Become a Servant Leader

Leadership and Influence. We want each Journeyer to learn to influence people with the gospel of Christ by serving them, which ties back to having an attitude of humility. Servant leaders seek to learn the real needs of people, not the perceived needs. They then meet those real needs with hearts of service.

Fall in Love with a People

As people live and serve, they fall in love with the country and the people they are surrounded by. As Journeyers begin to grow in language and cultural understanding, they begin to develop real relationships with the people in their communities. Relationship is the foundation upon which ministry happens.

Gain Hands-on Experience

The ministries that Journeyers are exposed to help them visualize what their future involvement in God's mission could be. As each one discovers their particular gifting, they become more effective for God's kingdom.

Transform U.S. churches

As young adults come home or commit to long term missions they will affect their home churches with a passion for missions. Each Journeyer becomes a living demonstration of what it looks like to sacrifice for the sake of the gospel. Our hope is that demonstration will rub off on their home churches and motivate congregations to be about the Kingdom of God.

Discover Your Calling

God has gifted every person in His body with specific strengths and has also placed a calling on their life (Eph. 2:10). We believe that if a person can capitalize on their strengths and serve where they’re called, then they will be an unstoppable tool in God’s hand. Not only will they be effective for God’s kingdom, but they will be doing what they were designed for.

Journey Corps is a ministry of WorldVenture, a mission agency that serves in over 70 countries around the world. Each one of those countries have many needs, but also have much to offer. Each place is a unique training ground for life, and an ideal place to get hands-on ministry experience, all while asking three questions: Who am I? Who is God? What is my role in God’s plan to redeem all creation?

“... so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them ...”

(Romans 12:5-6)

  • Who is God?

Christianity is about knowing someone, not doing something. That someone is the God of the universe. Knowing Him well will shape how you respond to life and to the world.
  • Who am I?

Knowing who you are, how God made you, and what He thinks of you are the most important things to know before you do anything. If your actions come from a wrong understanding of any of those things they come from the wrong place.
  • What is my Role?

God is on a mission to redeem His creation and reconcile the world to Himself. He has chosen to do that through his people (the church). By using imperfect people to do His perfect will, He demonstrates how great He is. What is your part in God's mission?
