Counselor and/or English Teacher

There is a high rate of suicide and sexual violence in Ecuador. Counselors are needed to deal with parenting issues, marriages, suicides, and teens. There is also the opportunity to teach English.

REQUIREMENTS:
Learn language (Spanish) and culture. Long-term commitment. Earn the trust of the people. Licensure recommended. Trauma training- Understanding of this population, trauma informed, understanding triggers. A vision trip is not required but would give you more understanding of the ministry you are stepping into, an ability to understand a bit more about the culture and people you will work with and help in explaining ministry to your partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Counseling in the areas of abuse, suicide, marriage abuse and issues, and parenting skills and issues. These opportunities would open doors to share the Gospel with people. There is also an opportunity to teach English on every level.

LIVING ENVIRONMENT:
Loja is a quaint city in Southern Ecuador known as the cultural and music capital. The city sits at 6,758 feet above sea level. It has a population of 181,000. The climate is moderate and spring like most of the year.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Counseling would be one of the most important tasks and could be done in their homes – going to see the people, you could set up and office or meet at the church there to minister to the needs of the people. Trainings could be done through local churches on suicide, abuse, parenting and marriage skills. This would be done mostly with nationals and there would be opportunity to go out to other provinces to take some of these trainings and individual counseling opportunities.
