Outgrowing small space

 We would like to share with you about one of the excitting things that the Lord is doing in our ministry here in Malaga.  As you may know this year we started a new community center for inmigrants.  We rented a small storefront space close to downtown and started to pull together a small team to offer classes in Spanish, English, computer skills and to help the young people with their homework.  

 

From the very first week it was clear the community center had tapped into some very real needs in the lives of the inmigrants in the area.  Many women have come to the center asking us to help their children with school work (most of these ladies have had very little schooling).  Some ladies have asked for help with basic counting and math skills so that they can find work as a shop attendant. Almost all of them need to learn to speak or read the Spanish language and a good number of them would like to learn some English as well.  More that anything however, these women and children are lonely and in need of friendship.  They are far from their families and friends and are living in a society that does not welcome them.  

 

The need is so great that we have quickly come to realize that our little storefront space is too small and underequiped.  At the Christmas party we had almost 30 people in a space that is only 625 square feet!  And this is just the beginning, as the word spread we expect many more to come.  

 

Believing in faith that this ministry will continue to grow we are praying for a larger place to have our community center.  If the Lord provides we would like to find a place to rent that is at least 1500 square feet.  We also believe that a small kitchen would greatly multiply the possibilities of working with women at the center.  It would allow us to have a cooking class, to host meals and special events.   

 

The community center is not only for inmigrants.  It is also a place for students and other young people from America, Spain and other countries to come and do an internship in a ministry setting that allows them to reach out to North Africans with the love of Christ in a practical and valuable way. In order for us to be able to move the community center to a larger facility we need to raise $3000 per month.  I
