Making Jesus Christ known through the cultural musics of various people groups!
Roberta R. King, Ph.D., focuses on two major areas of ministry. First, she communicates the gospel through contextualized worship arts and desires to make Jesus Christ known through the cultural forms of music of various people groups. Dr. King introduced Christian Music Communication studies at Daystar University in Kenya, where she was based, from 1978 to 1999. A missionary pioneer in ethnomusicology with WorldVenture, Dr. King was a tenured faculty member at Fuller Seminary from 2000-2021. During this time, she researched and specialized in peacebuilding and Muslim-Christian dialogue through music. Dr. King is returning to Daystar University to mentor emerging Muslim-Background-Believers from Sudan to communicate Christ among their own people groups. Publications include Global Arts and Christian Witness (Baker), (un)Common Sounds: Songs of Peace and Reconciliation among Muslims and Christians (Cascade), and Music and the Arts in Africa (Baylor UP).
