4000-398-Low, Roy

Teaching and mentoring at Singapore Bible College. More than 400 students from more than 30 countries come to Singapore Bible College for training in ministry; many come from the 10/40 Window.

Roy Low was raised in California, Amy in Texas, but other circumstances of their lives were amazingly similar. Both came from stable, hard-working, close-knit families that espoused traditional Chinese values. Three of their four parents, in fact, emigrated from China. Both of them earned civil engineering degrees, then entered into successful corporate careers.

Yet both realized that education, job, and accomplishment could not fill the void in their hearts. It was through their involvement in Bible study groups that each became convinced of the truth of the Bible, and, in time, they opened their hearts to God.

Sensing God’s call to future ministry in Asia, Roy enrolled in Dallas Theological Seminary. About the time he was finishing school and preparing to pastor a church in San Francisco, Amy arrived in Dallas to attend the seminaryês Lay Institute. For a time both attended the Dallas Chinese Baptist Church, and that is where they met. Later, with Royês encouragement, Amy enrolled in Golden Gate Baptist Seminary. Soon they were married.

In 1992 after pastoring Cumberland Presbyterian Chinese Church in San Francisco for eight years, Roy joined the faculty of Western Seminary in San Jose, where he now serves as associate professor of Old Testament. He teaches church leaders the relevance of the Old Testament and the practical use of biblical Hebrew. He also completed a doctor of philosophy degree at Golden Gate Seminary and helped plant a Chinese church in San Francisco. Currently, God has opened an opportunity for Asian ministry dear to Royês heart ã a post at Singapore Bible College much like his position at Western, but now he will be training leaders to serve in the spiritually needy 10/40 Window.

As a pastor’s wife, Amy taught Sunday school, started a women’s Bible study and a moms’ group, and revitalized a Chinatown VBS. In Singapore, she plans to mentor the college students and assist at the International Community School that the Low children will attend.

Pray for the Low family’s spiritual, emotional and physical preparation as they launch out to serve Christ and train church leaders in Asia.
