Restoration Ministries (RM) is an outreach ministry to the poor and downcast in Sao Paulo, Brazil. RM works in 5 slums and they offer many services at the Day Center. For many of the children, the reality of their lives center on drugs, domestic violence, prostitution and a poverty so severe that there is often no food to eat. The mission of RM is to transform underprivileged children and their communities through the good news of Jesus Christ, equipping them to serve. Counseling is always a need there.

REQUIREMENTS:
Person of prayer. Counseling license recommended, with specific training in trauma in order to understand this population and their trauma triggers. Learn Portugese and the culture. Earn the trust of the community. Vision trip is not required, but recommended.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with at-risk children and their families to provide hope in Christ compared to other options in their area of gangs, drugs and prostitution. Provide counseling services to children. Participate in events with the children and their families. Be involved in church. Extend the love of God.

LIVING ENVIRONMENT:
Restoration Ministries is in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a city of 18 to 24 million people. Many people live in apartments because of security. The housing would depend on whether it was a couple or single, but you could live with a family near the day center or rent an apt in that area of the city. The Day Center would make the housing arrangements in conjunction with the person/people coming.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work would mostly be done in an office at the Day Center, though you might go out to some of the slum areas to meet with different people. This work would be with nationals. The Day Center has many programs for the children and their families. As an example: when it is a Children’s Day event or Christmas event, everyone works together to make those events happen no matter what your job description is.
