TESOL (EFL/ESL) Teacher/Intern

Restoration Ministries is (RM) is an outreach ministry to the poor and downcast in Sao Paulo, Brazil exists to restore hope to children, youth, and families living in vulnerable communities’ favelas (slums) in São Paulo, Brazil through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our ministry is not primarily program based; it is relationship-based. We live life with people, walk inside their reality, disciple them. We are raising disciples who will transform their own communities through God’s grace and mercy. This is our prayers. We serve weekly in 5 favelas (slums) operate a Day Center during the week, host camps, mentor teenagers, support families, and train future Christian leaders. Here you won’t just help a ministry, you will become part of one.

We are urgently looking for native English speakers who fell called to make a real difference. By teaching and practicing English who fell called to make a real difference. By teaching and practicing English with our students, you will become part of something bigger than a classroom, you help change lives. We offer free English classes to the children in the slums creating opportunities there were a few before. At the same time our BAM- Business as a mission initiative provides English training for the adults who are investing in a better future for themselves and their families.
Our curriculum is gospel centered rooted in transformational teaching and intentional discipleship. We are not only teaching a language, but we are also raising up individuals with purpose, hope and tools to impact their communities.

REQUIREMENTS:
College student or graduate. A major in Education, English, Intercultural Studies, TESOL, or Youth Ministry is preferred but not required, depending on the class format teacher/intern will be involved. Some experience with language teaching is helpful, as well as some ministry teaching experience (Sunday School, VBS, Bible clubs, Bible study, small groups, etc.) We are looking for someone who will build relationships, who is evangelistically oriented, motivational, interested in learning and teaching language, and also flexible.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach for a minimum of 2 weeks up to one year. There are different English classes formats and they require different skills. Therefore, the type of class the teacher/intern will be involved in depends on his/her competencies and knowledge. The teachers/interns will be able to: - Assist local Brazilian teachers in English classes - Help planning, organizing, and executing ‘immersion classes’ that help students practice language based on real-world scenarios - Lead content-specific classes in English, such as Bible studies, cooking, or craft classes (there are many theme possibilities) - Help leading, organizing, and executing school events - Attend teacher staff meetings - Fulfill teaching procedures and responsibilities (reports, feedback, homework, projects, etc.) - Assist in other Restauration Ministry areas even when English classes are not in session, such as Camp California, Agita (children program), home visits, events, evangelism. Depending on your skills and experience, we welcome you to develop a special project during your time in Brazil.

LIVING ENVIRONMENT:
You will live either in the ministry dorm or with a Brazilian host family. If living with a family, the individual will adjust to the family routine and or cook your own food if it is needed. If living in the ministry dorm the individual will be responsible for cooking their own food. Grocery stores are nearby in a walking distance. The ministry kitchen is stocked with all needed supplies. We will help the person with transportation (Uber/public transit).
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Some of the classes will be held at our base in the Day Center, as well as in the slum areas where the ministry serves. Some special events will be held at Camp California.
