“Missions exists because worship doesn’t.” – John Piper

Japan is a place that has often been named the “missionary graveyard” because of such little fruit that is produced here. Less than 1% of Japanese are following Christ. I live among one of the largest unreached people groups in the world. Though physical persecution is no longer present in Japan, there are many other barriers to the gospel here.

Japan is a place that values harmony, social conformity to the group, and has lots of skepticism when it comes to religion. “Don’t be the nail that sticks out, or you’ll get hammered down.” This is a well-known phrase here that sums up what society will do to a Japanese who does not abide by the cultural norms. Please pray for our Japanese brothers and sisters because we know that being a Christian is always counter cultural in some way no matter where you live.

I’m serving in Yokohama as an associate church planter. I’ve gotten to see one of my closest friends get baptized, young girls growing a strong faith and deep love for Jesus, and God slowly (but surely) adding to our number as Christians here in Japan. Seeing my Japanese brothers and sisters sharing their faith in God with those around them is incredible. There’s nothing quite like it! Consider joining us in what God is doing, and I’ll keep you updated along the way if you’d like to sign up for my newsletter below.
