Tim and Stephanie moved to the Philippines in 2025 after feeling called to minister there several years prior. Before then, the couple, who both grew up in California, moved to Texas so Stephanie could attend school, and where God would forever shape their lives to prepare for the ministry they were called to ahead: the mission to share the love of Jesus overseas.
As a Filipino-American, Stephanie would often return to the Philippines growing up to visit family. It was during these visits where God had already begun a work on her heart that broke for the people, growing a desire in her to do something about the devastations, corruptions and injustices she witnessed there.
It wasn’t until she became an adult did God reveal to her how that would look like in His work through her life. Wanting to equip herself well for the task ahead, she felt moved to go to seminary to prepare for the field. In 2021, she graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a degree in Cross-Cultural Ministries and a fire to reach the lost.
During Stephanie’s time pursuing her education, God provided for their family through Tim who worked as a financial analyst. Tim’s life also continued to transform by the leading of the Spirit in his own personal life and through his marriage to Stephanie as they grew spiritually together.
By the time Stephanie had graduated from seminary he, too, felt called to missions long-term in the Philippines. So, as a family in the summer of 2025, after years of preparation, education, Church guidance and mentorship, God opened the doors for their life and ministry to begin overseas. With a leap of faith and support from their church and community, the family uprooted their lives in Texas, USA to Cebu, Philippines. There they reside with their three young children and fur-baby.
Using their skills, giftings, education and life experiences, the Sheweys plan to reach the lost in the Philippines through evangelism and discipleship, focusing on unengaged people groups. Though the Philippines is around 80% Roman Catholic (~93% in Cebu), most Filipinos practice syncretism, believe in universalism, and don’t necessarily have a true relationship with God. Rather, they depend on works-based “faith” and human-made cultures and traditions as a means for their salvation. The Sheweys aim to share the True Gospel, disciple believers and strengthen local churches so that disciples can continue making more disciples in their communities and beyond.
Currently in their first-term on mission, the Sheweys are focusing on language learning and cultural assimilation to connect and communicate well with the locals, while also working to become involved with their team on the field in Church Planting and Evangelism (CPE) efforts to reach the unengaged and marginalized people groups of Cebu, plus surrounding islands.
Using Tim’s experience and education in Business Economics, Tim is also involved in Business as Mission efforts with local ministries in Cebu City and surrounding provinces to reach business owners with the Gospel, influencing Christ-centered business practices in their communities.
Alongside their children, Tim and Stephanie are also engaging with other expat families in the kids’ school and extra-curricular activities, to reach the nations gathered in Cebu with the Gospel Truth, by living their faith out loud in doing life with the people God places in their path. It’s been an honor and a privilege for the Sheweys to serve as a family together in the Philippines, and they are grateful for the love and support of the Church for making this opportunity possible to be on mission there.
