Quotes from the livestream:
  • Jason: “I took a missions course with Mark Young, who’s President Denver Seminary now, and he kind of became a mentor, but he really started to kind of open up our thinking and about the need outside of the U.S. for churches.”
  • Jason: “We were trying to meet people. We’re trying to share the gospel as often as we could in order to get a church established. There wasn’t a whole lot of leadership development at that point that we could really be engaged in. So, it was weighted down there. Today, it’s weighted a little more towards the mentoring, the leadership development, the training, the church pastoring, and trying to raise up leaders within the church.”
  • Mandy: “You’re going to be building relationships. It’s just going to take time because it’s going to take time for people to trust you, to trust that you’re here, that you have their best interests in mind, that you’re going to stick with it and stay for the long haul.”
  • Mandy: “So, the beginning growth in the church began with immigration. So, it was very multinational. It still is our church, very international, and beautiful and that’s how even evangelical churches were growing and have seen growth is just Christians actually moving to Ireland. So, but being here now, 21 years, we’ve been able to see nationals coming to Christ and nationals coming to the church.”
  • Jason: “And it’s not because friendship in itself is good. Like it’s good in itself for us to be friendly and to be friends with nonbelievers. But we want to hopefully spur some kind of spiritual interest that we can turn into Gospel conversation.”

I am very glad to see you are evangelizing in the Galway area. It is also to get youth involoved and you are close to University of Ireland in Galway so you a wonderful field of young people to reach out to. I grew up in Ireland many years ago and have made several trips back with my wife. We attend Faith Church in Auburn Massachusetts. It is a growing church with 29 baptisms since January. I am active on the Missions Committee, and also lead a Small Group of Seniors (70+) on a weekly basis to study the Bible. There are about 400 in the congregation and we have at least 23 different Small Groups to teach, minister and to love each other. It is a multi-racial congregation that truly love each other, We support a number of missions both here at home in our community and about 30 foreign missions several of whom are with World Venture. I want to encourage you to continue in your good work at Galway City Church. I have long prayed for peace and unity in Ireland and I believe it is in God’s plan to happen.

I know about the Mission field as I was with Wycliffe Bible Translators. I told God that I was available but I hated heat, humidity, and bugs. God laughed and had me go to the Amazon Jungle of Peru. It was a year long mission, but it taught me about culture shock and reaching out to a diverse community (23 tribes at that time). I want you to know I am adding you and the family to my prayer list. Blessings, David
