Because of a good friend at WorldVenture, I now wear a new piece of jewelry with the word TETELESTAI engraved on a leather bracelet.

TETELESTAI is the Greek word translated, “It is finished,” and is of course the last word Jesus cried from His cross.

I love this word because it reminds me of the following:

It is finished – We are free!

  • The power of sin in our lives – finished!
  • The power of immorality in our lives – finished!
  • The power of addiction to drugs, alcohol, lust, greed, any vice, or godless behavior – finished!

It is finished – Once for all!

  • We are free – freed by what Jesus accomplished on the Cross. Jesus has opened the door to our prison cells – get up and walk out!
  • It is finished!

Our redemption – Finished!

  • “The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)
  • It is finished!
  • There is nothing that you or I can add to the work that Jesus accomplished for us.
  • “It is by grace, through faith that you have been saved….” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Not through our good works. We are saved because of the work of God.
  • It is finished!

TETELESTAI

  • A word of determination, of success! What Jesus came to do, he completed.
  • The plan was fulfilled. Salvation secured! God’s love for all revealed!
  • Jesus had offered himself fully to God as a sacrifice on behalf of humanity. Through His death – it is finished!

TETELESTAI – with this word the noblest person who ever lived, God in the flesh, breathed his last.

It is finished…

And yet, all who know Jesus know that IT IS FAR FROM OVER!
