4000-110-Chinn, Lloyd and Jan

Leading international workers toward strategic gospel engagement across Africa and developing the leadership skills of the international workers we serve.

We serve as International Ministries Director (IMD) for Africa. Our responsibility is in three areas: strategic planning, leadership development and organizational leadership. As IMD, some of what we are responsible for: providing pastoral care, leadership and supervision for international workers in Africa; assuring that WorldVenture personnel in Africa are being cared for and challenged toward ongoing personal and professional development; addressing personnel and field crises in Africa; and calling and leading international workers in Africa to spiritual, relational, and organizational health. We also have some responsibility for recruiting needed workers and identifying new fields of service.

Currently, we serve 108 units which comprises over 200 adults (some singles, some couples with children) in 12 different countries (Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda); visiting each of the countries at least once per year. It is our sincere desire to see international workers across Africa spiritually empowered, unleashed to soar in their respective ministries and to facilitate the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ across the continent of Africa.

We are native to Texas and began traveling to Ghana for short-term ministry in 1999 while Lloyd was a student at Dallas Theological Seminary. In 2004, we moved with our two sons to Ghana, West Africa. After serving for 10 years in Ghana in the areas of leadership development and community economic development, we accepted the IMD role for Africa. We bring with us 10 years of experience in Ghana; 10 years of professional experience in human resource management, political strategy and community economic development; and 6 years of church ministry experience in leadership, women’s ministry and worship ministry.

Lloyd holds a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University and a Th.M. in Educational Leadership from Dallas Theological Seminary, where he served as a Leadership Fellow in the Center for Christian Leadership. Lloyd worked as a political strategist in Georgia and Texas and as an urban planner before becoming a missionary.

Jan holds B.A. degrees in Organizational Management and Business Leadership from Ashford University. She served as a Practice Associate for Arthur Andersen LLP and as Corporate Human Resource Manager for Rosewood Hotels and Resorts before becoming a missionary.

The Chinns have three adult children and a granddaughter; Jamie a Social Worker in Houston TX & mother of granddaughter, Savannah Sarai; Joseph, a recent graduate of Denver Seminary with a passion for helping believers understand their identity; and Jeremy, a senior at Belmont University in Nashville, TN where he is studying Audio Engineering Technology with a French minor.

We are currently seeking the Lord for the mobilization of 26 new units comprising 5 teams to 5 people groups across Africa. Praying expectantly for the Lord to open doors of partnership for workers in Africa to finance the vision that God has given to each one of them!

Our biggest challenges: Recruiting in countries with small teams – specifically Ghana, Guinea, and Mali – and developing a team and plan for Congo.
Providing more Soul Care opportunities specific to people that serve the Lord in Africa.
