Afghanistan:

It’s been several months since the last update on Imama and her family – a realistic demonstration of the title of the previous update, “The Long Wait Begins.

While we pray, probe, and wait for opportunities to evacuate, life goes on.

  • One member of the family slipped, breaking several bones, and requires several surgeries. Praise the Lord, recovery is going well, but pray for complete healing.
  • Imama’s elderly parent is extremely depressed and has high blood pressure (one trip to the hospital). Having to abandon their home, friends, and relatives is much harder for the elderly. We are sending scriptural promises from God’s word, which help.  Please pray for this parent.
  • One month they ran low on food but didn’t want to bother us. God prompted us to ask about food and we arranged another food drop the next day. We are thankful to the Lord for our friends inside the country who risk their lives to deliver food to them. Pray for these friends’ protection and safety.

At the last update, we had no evacuation options.  Two options are now possible but are still fuzzy – meaning they have not been authorized.

  • One option keeps the family together in one unit,
  • and the other option splits the family into two units, which are likely to land in two different countries.

Join us in praying for God’s guidance for their family if and when these options become viable, that the LORD will direct them to safe pastures where they can flourish. Pray that God’s option will emerge clearly, and this would happen soon!

You may have seen in the news[i] that at 1:24 AM on June 22 (Kabul time) a 5.9-magnitude earthquake[ii] hit a remote, mountainous region at the eastern edge of Afghanistan near the Pakistan border. A thousand people were killed when their homes collapsed as they slept.  You can see from the map below that many other, smaller quakes continue in the country.

We ask prayer that the international humanitarian community would respond in Jesus’ Name, and the Taliban would be moved to be more humane to their own people, especially the women.  May many who need to evacuate be provided that opportunity.

Leave a note below for Imama, and we will pass it along to her family.

Thank you for your prayers.  They sustain us and clarify the steps to help Imama and her family.

Dear Imama, love, greetings, courage and blessings to you all the way from West Africa, Côte d’Ivoire ??.
Our living God is right there with you and guiding you with his mighty hand. Lean on Him ??
«But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.»
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:1-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Thank you. I’ll make sure the message is passed on.

  • Shelly says:

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you…. I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior. (Isaiah 43:2,11, ESV)
Your name, kingdom, and will is being accomplished through much trial. Create a way to a new, safe location for Imama and her family so they can heal and minister more. We thank You, Lord. Amen.
