On April 16, 2016, a massive 7.8 earthquake took place off the coast of Ecuador affecting the provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas. 655 people were killed, 1,100 buildings were destroyed and over 29,000 people are living in shelters. Hundreds of aftershocks have left the Ecuadorian people traumatized and afraid. This project funds the purchase and distribution of 20,000 Portuguese New Testaments to be given out in Japan. PROBLEM About two hundred thousand Brazilians, largely of Japanese descent, live and work in Japan who need to hear the promises of the Bible. Promifé is a twice-a-year evangelistic outreach that is used to establish churches and further the work of the Brazilian church. PROBLEM Many students are involved in ministry positions and also working full-time jobs to pay the costs of their studies. VISION Financial help could allow students to benefit more from their time in the seminary. STRATEGY This project provides funds to students who are unable to pay their tuition and other expenses. PROBLEM Most graduate students are involved in full ministry positions, some of which pay salaries that are minimal. VISION This project directly impacts our goal of training leaders. STRATEGY Training "trainers" can be an extremely strategic investment which can be multiplied through the lives and ministries of those they in turn teach. CAPACITY Costs vary at different institutions, but $200 monthly can generally pay the full cost of full-time graduate study.

Funds help defray the costs of various evangelistic efforts by short-term teams. Each year short-term teams assist missionaries in a variety of evangelistic opportunities. PROBLEM Hosting short-term teams generates costs in the area of gasoline, toll booths, food, and evangelistic material. AV equipment needs to be maintained and eventually replaced. VISION The efforts of short-term teams make disciples for Christ, plant new churches, and equip church leaders. Leadership training requires the availability of good books for study and research. The Baptist seminaries in São Paulo, Brazil, will use these funds to purchase books for students to use in their studies. PROBLEM The libraries at the Baptist seminaries need continued aid to meet the needs of students and pastors. The accreditation process they are entering will require multiple copies of the books that are used as texts for the courses given. CAPACITY Many textbooks can be purchased by libraries for $30 and used by students and pastors for many years.

The Resident Seminary trains Christians to serve the local church in all areas of ministry. Funds from this project will help subsidize the seminary's costs and allow students who are struggling with the devastated Argentine economy to continue their education. PROBLEM In past years, students have covered well over 60% of the seminary's costs. Yet keeping costs low will allow more students to attend. VISION The funds raised are directly used to make disciples for Christ and equip leaders for the church.
